Last night on FB Live I talked some about habits. It hit a few nerves and I got a few messages about some bad habits that are being picked up.
When we first got quarantined, I truthfully think it did us all some good. We were forced to slow down. I think we run at such a fast pace striving, chasing and having to constantly be fed a stream to fill our time and minds that we needed a pause. Everything came to a screeching halt and it forced a lot of us to regroup and do things differently. That wasn’t such a bad thing. People reconnected with their families. Family dinners starting taking place, puzzles were being put together, books were being read, games were being played and people actually had real conversations.
However, after the newness of that wore off I think we all started to pick up a few bad habits. What may of been a glass of wine once or twice a week may of turned into a glass or two every night. What may of been going to bed at a decent hour has turned into staying up way too late. What started out as home cooked meals is now microwave ready meals. What was going to the gym daily has turned into being a couch potato. What was a slight irritation about being at home this much has turned into a really bad attitude. What was appreciation for your spouse has turned into constant annoyance. You get my drift. We all have good intentions, but during this time.. it is especially easy to drift into bad habits.
So.. what to do?? Let’s be real.. it is hard to just stop. We have to replace the bad habit with a good one. Instead of pouring another glass of wine, make some hot tea. Instead of staying up late, take a hot bath and go to bed. Restock your fridge with some healthy easy stuff. You don’t have to cook something fancy to be healthy every night. Pick up a book, turn off Netflix for a beat. Set your alarm clock to get up at a decent time, get back on a schedule. Work on some projects around the house. Go for a walk everyday. Engage with family and friends. You can shoot a text or FaceTime. Don’t let this cause you to disengage with people. We need each other. Spend time in Bible study and prayer. Use this time to create good habits!!
We have a great opportunity before us, don’t let the enemy hi-jack it!!!
Whatever bad habit you have picked up, God can help you overcome it!! He is faithful!
"The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure." - 1 Corinthians 10:13
